Human Design compatibility: how two charts weave together
July 1, 2026 · 2 min read · by reloom
Most compatibility tools ask a shallow question: are these two people a match? Human Design asks a better one: what happens in the space between them? When two bodygraphs are laid over each other, new channels light up that neither person has alone. That overlap — the weave — is the real story of a relationship.
The three ways two charts meet
When you combine two charts, every connection falls into one of a few patterns:
- Electromagnetic — one person has half a channel, the other has the other half. Together you complete it. This is attraction and chemistry, the pull toward each other.
- Compromise — one person is defined where the other is undefined in the same channel. The defined person leads here; the open person learns. It works beautifully with awareness, and chafes without it.
- Dominance — one chart fully carries a channel the other lacks. That person sets the tone in that area, for better or worse.
- Companionship — you're both defined the same way. Easy, familiar, and occasionally boring — you see the world too similarly to surprise each other.
Why "opposites attract" is literally true here
Electromagnetic connections form precisely where you differ. The gate you lack is the gate someone else carries — and the click of completion is often what we call chemistry. Understanding this takes the mystery out of attraction without taking away its warmth. You start to see why a person pulls at you, and what that connection is asking of you both.
Compatibility is a practice, not a verdict
A high "score" doesn't guarantee ease, and a low one doesn't doom anything. What matters is knowing where you complete each other, where one of you leads, and where to be gentle. That's the whole point of the reloom name — taking two sets of threads and weaving them, patiently, into something that holds.
